Janine Di-Masi

Humans: My greatest fascination.

Circumstances are not conclusions. That belief did not come from a book or a lecture theatre. It came from decades of sitting with people who had been told, implicitly or explicitly, that their starting point was their destination. It was not. It never is.

She began under the warm lights of dramatic arts, full of possibility. But the path that found her was far more human.

She has and continues to work across the most complex and demanding elements of human services. With the work came the noticing, and with the noticing came the questions. As a species that has benefited from collaboration and is therefore wired to seek it, what disrupts that? Understanding what gets in the way is as important as understanding what enables it. That is the research. That is where she is today.

Along the way she helped build a therapy centre for children alongside a group of exceptionally skilled clinicians, completed her psychology registration and Honours, and went on to work with headspace, Australia’s national youth mental health service.  headspace is an organisation she remains deeply supportive of for the access and reach it provides to young people who need it most.

She now leads her own private practice, home to a team of clinicians with deep expertise whose work is built around vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people, and their families.

The through line across all of it is the same conviction: Given the opportunity to access quality information and genuine support, every person has more to consider, more to work with, and more to contribute.

Janine’s life work is built on that belief. That good science and good clinical practice should be accessible. That people have the right to valuable information.  Access is the key  to allow people the opportunity to become a source of possibility for themselves and those around them. This shift moves outward in ways we cannot always trace but should never underestimate.
